About Kim
Kim Hagemann is from central Wisconsin and grew up in a union household and attended public schools, which laid the foundation for her strong belief in public education and worker rights.
She earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and worked for over 30 years in agriculture. Much of her career was managing intellectual property and negotiating contracts for an international agricultural seed company.
Kim is a trusted community leader for many environmental causes and serves on the board of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, where she fights for clean water and real climate solutions. She and her husband, Tom Skadow, have lived in Polk County for over 30 years and they have one adult son that graduated from Ankeny High School.
Why I’m Running
I am running because the decisions made by the board of supervisors have the potential to improve our quality of life—or not. I want to ensure all decisions put people over profits, so that we can keep property taxes in check while keeping-up services and improving the quality of life in Polk County.
I am running because we need to address the growth happening and ensure it is smart and sustainable growth. Infrastructure done on the cheap when developers are paying, only increases the tax burden on residents going forward.
I am running to lead on how we can reduce the strain on our communities caused by extreme weather events. We need to address residential flooding and what happens when rainfall exceeds “normal” amounts. We need to evaluate how we can reduce long term power outages in the face of ice storms and wind events like a derecho.
I am running to focus on supporting our public schools and public services and to re-evaluate tax payer money spent to support so-called “economic development” projects.
I am not a politician nor am I looking to further my political career. I did not, and I will never take, big campaign contributions from developers and people looking for favors from the county for their development projects.
I will work hard. I will put in the effort to make sure I am listening to my constituents and communicating what the board is doing. I will always make decisions based on what is best for our communities both for the short term and the long term.
I am asking you to --vote for Kim Hagemann, so that together we can plan for a better future.
